May 3, Mail Tribune:

For the next generation, please vote yes on Measure 15-122 for stabilized funding of our public library system.

I became a grandmother a few weeks ago. My grandbaby’s first journey into the public at 6 days old was not to Grandma’s house. It was to the public library to get her own library card.

Twenty-five years ago, when my children were young, our outings included visits to the library. They got to choose 10 books each to take home — Christmas twice a week.

There was a day when my daughter was 8 years old and I took her to the larger Medford library. She said, “Look, Mom, there are books I haven’t read.”

Please vote yes. Today’s children need this valuable resource, and the guarantee that libraries will be around for years to come. — Cathy Freeman, Ashland
