We still need libraries

April 30, Mail Tribune:

In a recent letter the writer proclaimed that libraries are “virtually obsolescent artifacts of a previous age.” Well, la-de-da! This might be the same guy who said the movies would disappear because of television.

I use my computer every day — it’s great. But I just finished a 750-page biography that I checked out from — ta-da! The library. If this fellow can read a 750-page book on his iPhone then he has better eyesight than 99 percent of the population. As for me, and I’m a property owner too, I’ll stick with the “obsolescent artifacts” and the wonderful, wonderful books inside. — Marcia Simon, Ashland
